DESCRIPTION:The 4th Annual Kids Take Over the Museum provides kids of all ages with hands-on activities rooted in rich Appalachian history \nThere is no shortage of activities for your young crafter or artist. From 10:00 am to 4:00 pm\, they get their hands and minds busy on basket weaving\, blacksmithing\, and pottery making.  Over 25 demonstrations\, on-site vendors and special events are lined up for this huge day at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center. \nVisitors play loads of games that were popular choices for kids on the mountain homestead. Plus\, representatives from the Museum of the Cherokee will be on hand to share their cultural heritage. \n\n  \nThe Junior Appalachian Musicians show off their musical skills as they play traditional mountain music. The musical program culminates with a performance in the 350-seat amphitheater. \n\n  \nWith living history interpreters and demonstrators throughout the Heritage Center’s 13.5 acre museum site\, kids are the focus all day long.   Don’t  miss it! \n\n  \nSuggested Donation: $20 per vehicle.

DESCRIPTION:As a part of our 52 nights of “A Heritage Center Christmas”\, enjoy Christmas in the Village as you stroll the illuminated historic village adorned with glittering lights and traditional seasonal décor\, including living greens\, oil lamps\, cozy fires\, wreaths\, garlands and more! \nTransport your family back in time with traditional demonstrations and conversations with living historians and artisans as they serve up a mix of warm\, Appalachian holiday cheer. \nLiving historians and period-dressed demonstrators will be in the village each night. Children can help decorate our Christmas tree by adding their name to our chain link garland. They can also visit our kids’ area including traditional\, take-home crafts and activities for all ages. \nMake it a family experience and stroll through authentic Smoky Mountain history in the warm glow of the historic Appalachian village. \nAdmission on the Six Nights of CHRISTMAS IN THE VILLAGE:\n$15.00 (Ages 12+)\n$10.00 (Kids 3–12)\nFree for Children under 3 \nEnjoy holiday refreshments in the Historic 1830s Montvale Station Tavern\, including Hot Chocolate\, Hot Cider\, Kettle Corn\, and Baked Goods. You’ll see demonstrations of: \nGrinding corn with a mortar and pestle \nStripping seeds from dried plants \nIdentifying seeds used for food\, medicine\, and beauty\nVisitors will also have the opportunity to learn about the Davis Family themselves\, whose original cabin stands right here at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center.
