Pizza is always in season. So let’s talk about the best slices around town. We’re taking a slice of Blount to find the best pie in the County.
The Abbey
If craft beer beside running water sounds good, check out The Abbey. Their flatbread pizzas include familiar options, like cheese-pesto and vegetarian. But don’t overlook their signature flatbread, topped with pork belly, Gala apple, caramelized onion, BBQ sauce, and mozzarella cheese. The rest of the menu ranges from wings and barbecue to entree salads and steamed subs.

Amici
Pizza’s only part of the menu at Amici, but what a part! In addition to the “Alpine Appalachian” cuisine (check out the cornmeal-fried trout and the Crab BLT Risotto), their wood-fired oven turns out pizzas both familiar (Four Cheese, Italian Sausage) and novel (Peach and Prosciutto). You can build your own, too, with a wide variety of high-end toppings, including finishes like truffle oil, Calabrian Buffalo Sauce or fresh basil leaves. .

Bella Roma
Bella Roma serves up authentic New York-style pizza in a family-style diner setting. Build your own pie with your choice of toppings on the hand-tossed crust. Specialties include the New York Meatball Pizza and the Philly Steak Pizza. There’s a long list of subs on the menu if you just aren’t craving pie, and if you’re still hungry, you can add a salad, fried pickles, chicken tenders, or fried mushrooms.

Bluetick Tavern
Bluetick Tavern boasts a great entertainment lineup and a great beer list, but don’t overlook their flatbread pizzas. The All-American is topped with pepperoni, sausage, onions, mushrooms, and green peppers, with Bluetick’s housemade herbed tomato sauce. The vibes are fun in this downtown hangout, which also serves up burgers, tacos, salads, and more.

Jaboni’s
Jaboni’s has a huge selection of specialty pies, from classics like the Margherita (tomato sauce, basil, and house-made fresh mozzarella) to innovations like the Original Special (sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, and peppers). Our sources recommend trying Grandmas, a deep-dish concoction with garlic sauce and tomatoes. Augment your pizza feast with fried pickles, garlic knots, or calamari.

Metro Pizza
One of the oldest local pizzerias is Metro Pizza, founded by Salvatore Boccia. Metro does a brisk lunch business with by-the-slice pizza, but they also offer salads, pasta dishes, and hot subs. You can build your own pizza with a variety of toppings, or you can opt for one of the signature options, like The New Jersey (Italian sausage, green peppers, and onions), the Viva Vegetable, or the Kitchen Sink. (Yes, both are what they sound like.)

Smoky Mountain Brewery
Smoky Mountain Brewery prides itself on its microbrews, obviously, but what goes better with beer than pizza? The menu is huge, with a range of burgers, sandwiches, and all-American entrees, but the hand-tossed pizzas and calzones are a standout. Build your own or go for the specials, like the Baker’s Choice (pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, sausage, and green peppers) or the Brewmaster, a white pizza featuring a four-cheese blend, chicken, garlic-roasted tomatoes, and spinach.
