More than Floors

David’s Abbey Builds Connections in Blount

After a half-century doing business in neighboring counties, David’s Abbey Carpet & Floors has made a home in Blount County.

The Maryville location opened in early 2024. The expansion into this, their third location, made sense, said Steve Blodgett, Marketing Vice President at David’s Abbey. โ€œLocal builders and contractors now have a convenient location to send customers for selecting products and picking up materials for their jobs,โ€ he explained. This โ€œpreviously untapped market of Blount County and beyondโ€ also has a personal connection.

โ€œBlount County is where life happens for many employees at Davidโ€™s, myself included,โ€ he said.

Located at 1719 King Circle, the unassuming brick building hides a showroom jam-packed with flooring options, including tile, carpet, laminate and wood. Each section has a dizzying range of styles. There’s no need for a customer to feel overwhelmed by the choices, however. That’s what Blodgett and the David’s Abbey team is there for.

โ€œBuilding and renovating are hard,โ€ Blodgett noted. โ€œItโ€™s messy. It takes time. There are what feel like millions of choices. At Davidโ€™s, we aim to be the easiest part of the process in turning a house into a home by offering expert perspective and stunning designs.โ€

Helping people find their dream look is, in fact, his favorite part of his job. He enjoys โ€œhelping folks flip the script on their home.โ€ That might look like a carpet refresh or a needed renovation. โ€œEither way,โ€ he added, โ€œI get to enter into what often feels like a hopeless and stressful story and turn it into a happy ending.โ€

That happy ending might be an engineered hardwood designed to withstand dog feet, or it might be hardworking onyx-look tile with a sleek style. Blodgett’s team is happy to help find the right look, with options for a variety of budgets.

Small-Town Vibes

Blount County โ€œis a fun market,โ€ Blodgett chuckled. “Somehow everyone knows everyone else!โ€ He contrasted our scene with the flagship showroom in Farragut. The closer-knit community vibe here โ€œholds us to a higher standard because our neighbors may come shop with us, or we may run into previous clients about town.โ€

While some might view what he called a โ€œblurring of the lines between worklife and homelifeโ€ a source of stress, Blodgett sees it as an opportunity. David’s Abbey wants โ€œto be the go-to source for floor coverings in Blount County,โ€ Blodgett said. โ€œThat goes without saying.โ€

But in addition to helping folks build and renovate their dream homes, he added, โ€œmore importantly, we are here to be present and active in our town.โ€ To that end, David’s Abbey sponsors several local sports programs; you might have heard their announcement during the broadcast of the recent Maryville-Alcoa football game, for instance.

In addition, Blodgett said, we โ€œfocus on establishing lasting partnerships with local businesses both inside and outside the home-building industry.โ€

Having local roots gives David’s Abbey important connections in the community. โ€œBlount County is my home,โ€ Blodgett said, โ€œand I want my home to be a loving, lovely place.โ€ He added, โ€œWe have the products, the expertise, the drive and the heart to make that happen.โ€
